Surprise! "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is Day 10's special treat for Deck the Haunted Halls! "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is a beloved and cheerful holiday song, as readers well know. However, the lyrics weren’t always so merry and bright. When Hugh Martian originally wrote the song for Judy Garland, the lyrics were much more haunting and sad. Garland refused to sing it because she was afraid that people would hate her for ruining Christmas. So the song was rewritten, and that is how we ended up with the happier lyrics we have today.
Settle in to enjoy Mosaic Players Founder Bonnie Hart singing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" with the original lyrics.
Bonnie was most recently seen in the Mosaic Players fall tour of On the Verge as Alex. They are excited to be a part of Deck the Haunted Halls and have loved seeing everyone’s videos! They are excited for the holiday season and have been listening to many Christmas songs and plan on baking many Christmas cookies! They hope you have a wonderful holiday season and are able to spend it with the people you love most because that is what makes this season warm and bright.
"A sad tale’s best for winter ... I have one. Of sprites and goblins.”
Mamillius, Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale
During the month of December, please join the Mosaic Players by the light of our shared virtual screens as we enjoy ghostly tales. Our members will be recording songs, stories, readings, and more. As videos become available, we'll post them here, there, and everywhere. If you have a ghostly tale that you'd like to share, please contact Artistic Director, Rebecca Zellar (rebecca.zellar@mosaicplayers.org). 'Tis the season!
